I had a friend recently uh a few weeks ago, it's actually the friend I was staying with in Spain, and she said she sent me a message going, My mum's going to chemo and she's rereading Esther Durrant again as a kind of comfort read while she goes through chemo and it's like, wow, you know, you can't imagine that a a book of yours can can do that for somebody.
So those moments are pretty incredible, the small moments like that, yeah.
It feels like I'm doing what I should be doing and for a long time I was too scared to admit it to myself that that's what I wanted to do or didn't think I was capable of doing it.
I thought people much cleverer than me wrote books.
I didn't think I could ever sustain an idea or a story to write a book.
I didn't know that writing the first draft is actually only the first step.
There is so much involved after that.
And I've seen quite a few right people who want to be writers going, Great, I finished it.
First draft done.
Can somebody else go and do the rest of the hard work for me?
And it's like, no, no, no, no, no.
This is this is just, you know, step one.
And that good writing is rewriting.
And also that every book seems to be a different challenge.
And every time I write something, I think in the middle of it, oh God, it's awful.
What am I doing?
This is a complete
The story's terrible, it's going nowhere.
Like you just have to ignore that voice on your shoulder and push on and go, No, I'm just gonna write till it till I'm finished it and and I've uncovered the story.
Yeah.
