Yeah, exactly, Matt.
Um, yeah, you you were saying you were just off air yesterday evening when the uh when the when the news broke uh at at home in Ireland and it was mid afternoon here and I was taken aback by just how stunned, you know, um all of America seemed to be by uh by by the news of her death.
And it seemed to me that from, you know, the political class through to, you know, her fellow musicians and her many
millions of fans.
They only sort of fully absorbed and appr appreciated who she was and what she meant to them in that moment.
And uh it was a very it was a very strange sort of late afternoon and evening here.
Just um
watching and listening as as, you know, the official business of the day was cast aside and there was this
genuine outpouring of um of of affection and love and uh yeah you know mix mix mixed with sorrow um but a but a lot of warmth for for what you think that is what this woman represented.
Uh I think she was just I mean, you know, a Ed Ed has summed it up uh s so well uh earlier in the conversation there.
I think she was just an ex well, you know,
w to begin with her songs.
I mean they they're they've just lived through the decades.
They're they're they're wonderful songs and and and they're timeless.
But she herself was such a sort of a um you know a vital and warm
person and and and a force of good and also you know the mythology of her of her story you know it's classically American to come from uh you know acute poverty in in in the Smoky Mountains with really not much going for apart from this God given musical talent and uh a work ethic both of which uh things but but but both of which are elements that are that are really respected here.
You know, if you can combine that talent
balance uh with with the work ethic and persevere which she did uh and and she just endured, you know, she sort of
she never really compromised in her image.
Uh e even though, you know, fashions changed a decade, she was recognizably her.
