So they went through this trauma that may have brought them here.

You know what I mean?

And that's in my book, right?

Like the trauma of enslavement and the horrors.

Like there's a lot that I don't know about.

Right.

But I do know, you know, that there was, you know, torture and there was sexual violence and, um, horrors, but there was all this beauty and resilience of family and culture and community.

I mean, to me, it was like amazing for me to go back.

I was there once at age like four or five, you know, and saw this cousin who's 97.

So when I did this research, she remembered me and she remembered my mom and there was still enough communication that.

you know, we were known to her and her siblings.

So to me, that's kind of amazing is that, you know, here I'm tracing someone who was born 180 years ago and my family left Hilton Head and left the South in around 1940.

And then I can go back, you know, um, 70 years after that and be embraced, you know, with love.

And it's kind of amazing.

For me, it wasn't about the trauma.

It was about all this richness that I found.

Yeah.

I mean, and I don't know if you've done if you've gone back to those that those places in Ireland that your ancestors are from.

I haven't.

No.
