Do you and I choose someone else to be king other than Jesus?
I mean, think about how the people responded to Jesus.
The soldiers mocked him.
Pilate tries to stay neutral, but of course he can't.
The crowd trades him for Caesar.
The wrong response is subtle.
The wrong response usually isn't to shout, crucify him.
No, the more common response is to quietly choose our own Caesars, our own comfort, our own control, our own reputation, our own self-rule.
to trade Jesus in for something else that we'd rather have because we want to sit on the throne.
We don't want him to sit on the throne of our life.
We reject Jesus so we can build the kingdom of me.
But Pilate said, Behold the man and let us do that.
Let us behold Jesus.
Let us see him clearly let us see him with the crown of thorns.
Let us see him keep his composure.
He is the king who is reigning, the king who was exalted when he was hoisted up on that cross.
He is there for you.
The only fitting response to this king is not to say we have no king but Caesar, but instead to say, Jesus, you are my king.
To push ourselves off the throne, to push anything else off the throne of our heart, that King Jesus may take that place that he alone deserves.
Today, behold the man and crown him king of your life.
