At Rubio's first stop, the Jewish holy side of the Western Wall, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked the Secretary of State for the visit, which he said was a testament to the strength of the US Israel alliance.
Before departing the US, Rubio reiterated President Trump's displeasure with Israel's attack in Qatar, a strategic ally.
Obviously, we're not happy about it, he said.
He added talks with Israel would be about moving forward and would not include Israel's latest offensive in Gaza City, where the military has ordered the metropolis cleared and has been leveling high rises and collapsing a large number of buildings.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will allow a, quote, basic quantity of food into Gaza and control all aid distribution there. He also said Israel will hold on to territory seized by ground forces and what he says will be a plan to, quote, taking control of all of Gaza.
Intense shelling and airstrikes in northern Gaza has forced Palestinians to flee like 50-year-old Wael al-Kilani, who walked for hours with his wife and seven children. He says the bombing was intense, with planes striking, artillery fire and tanks. Hamas and Israel are currently holding indirect talks in Doha. Israel demands Hamas lay down its arms.

According to Gaza health officials, the family of at least 12 people were killed in their home in the northern city of Jabalia. Also in northern Gaza, Israel says it targeted a Hamas command center housed in a former police station. And it released details of the killing of a 26-year-old reservist who officials say was hit by sniper fire.
Israel's military released a report Thursday into the killing of a U.N. aid worker claiming responsibility despite initial denials. Nearly 2,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel resumed fighting ending the two-month ceasefire. More than 51,000 have been killed since the war began after Hamas-led militants killed 1,200 in Israel on October 7th of 2023. Carrie Conn, NPR News, Tel Aviv.
In a local radio interview, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Brazil does not want friction with anyone. But he added, quote, if Trump behaves like this toward Brazil, we will reciprocate in kind. Lula added that Trump is acting like he is sheriff of the world. So far, Brazil has not levied any new import tariffs. Trump slapped 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imported into the U.S.
Brazil is the second largest supplier of steel to the U.S. Trump also announced reciprocal tariffs on all countries— For Brazil, that would affect its large ethanol exports. The director of one of the last functioning hospitals in northern Gaza says the facility has been shelled by sniper fire and drones. The director of Kamal Adman Hospital says the attacks have come with no warning and no protection for patients and civilians.
He insists there are no military targets or fighters within his hospital, which he says has hundreds of patients and civilians there, including babies in the neonatal unit. Israel says Hamas militants operate in hospitals and schools endangering civilians. In a statement to NPR, the Israeli military says its forces have been operating in the vicinity, but not within the hospital's premises.
In the past 48 hours, more than 50 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, according to the health ministry there. Kerry Kahn, NPR News, Tel Aviv.
