Good morning, David.
I I don't know because I have an interest in this uh subject, you know, people travelling to and from the airport and I was on a flight myself last Saturday night and it worked okay from uh Edinburgh.
But uh I'm going flying again on Friday.
I hope things are sorted.
This is interesting in that uh I took my students to a place called Swannick where all this stuff starts, you see, and we had lectures not once but twice from the director of innovation and design down there.
This is about a decade ago.
And he said with the new system we're putting in and the investment we make, the chance of a total air traffic control failure in any part of the UK is one in ten thousand.
Something has gone wrong somewhere because in the last couple of years I just checked it up recently in August twenty three with a flight planning system failure, massive collapse, seven hundred thousand people affected.
July twenty five, last year, radar related system technical failure.
Hundred and sixty flights cancelled and of course yesterday a radar network software error which, you know, has hundreds of thousands of people upset and will be upset until the weekend as far as I can tell.
So I don't know what's gone wrong.
I'm kind kinda with Mr O'Leary in this one that the chief executive has to do something soon because one in ten thousand is not what we've seen.
It is but of course y you'd have to look at that now as a as a is there a malign actor putting something into the system?
They haven't admitted it yet, but if they do they should get the work done soon and it should be resilient against both internal and external, you know, problems and faults and they haven't done that.
I don't know when the next fault might occur.
Would it be this week, next week, next year?
Who knows?
Well, aviation and in particular airports are very precise places.
In other words, uh a hub as as has just been mentioned by Simon, you know, like Heathrow, Gatwick, even Manchester, wherever it might be, it's the the allocation of stands is a very complex matter, as is air traffic systems, as are taxiways.
So if you don't get the aircraft off that they don't want the people back in the terminal because they have to be reprocessed again.
