They don't want the baggage off it because that has to be handled again.
They want you to be gone.
So everyone thought this would last maybe forty five minutes, maybe fifty minutes, we'll have this sorted out.
So it's cheaper and easier to leave them lined up as was the case on the taxiways waiting for departure clearance, which never came after two and a half or three hours.
The complication then is y they could accept landing aircraft, so those landing aircraft are going to take up the slots, the stands that you've just vacated by the aircraft leaving, and therefore you've nowhere to go.
And after that, by the way, the airport gets full.
Literally speaking, we've nowhere to put the aircraft, nobody to handle the inbounds, so they had to divert traffic which you wouldn't normally land at a big airport somewhere else, and everything is disrupted.
Crews are out of hours, people are in the wrong place, and aircraft
leaving uh in the wrong airport means you can't provide the next service.
So it got very complex very quickly.
Eventually people had to be taken off the aircraft because three hours is just too much.
It i it it's incomprehensible in some ways, particularly with the longer range wide bodied aircraft.
If you're supposed to be in Gatwick and you're in Manchester, what do you physically do?
You've got to get a crew up there, bring the people back and fly the aircraft in, which means you're putting pressure on a slot airport anyway.
In other words
There's a normal uh you know, list of numbers of flights it can take.
You've got to add aircraft in and then try and get them out again.
And what happens to the people who should have been gone yesterday and didn't get out at all?
How do you squeeze in them the numbers into the aircraft?
It's very complex and it lasts for two or three days at least.
