I think, obviously, when I was playing, you didn't have academies, you didn't have all these scouts going round.
You had the odd one, obviously.
I think Wolverhampton Wanderers had even a little academy in Barnsley because they were very forward-thinking, thinking that Yorkshire kids might be ahead of the game.
So there was a few starting to look for players, but generally...
In the 60s, you just played games for your local club.
And if you were lucky, someone would come and invite you to a trial somewhere.
And that happened to me a couple of times.
Doncaster Rovers, which was a team I wanted to play for because I'm from Doncaster.
And my hero was a guy called Alec Jeffery, who sadly broke his leg playing for the England 23s the year I was born.
But he came back to play for Doncaster.
So I liked the way he played.
And my other hero was the goalkeeper, Willy Nimmo.
But turned down at Doncaster because I was too small.
And then I went to Coventry, got turned down there, having come through a trial of 220.
They invited two of us back for six weeks training and they took the other guy, a lad called Brian Joy, who would end up playing at Tram here.
And they let me go.
So, yeah, I had to take what my dad called a proper job.
