And I got a job in a brassworks in Doncaster.

had a recent chat with someone from scunthorpe united who said look if you get as a player to become an apprentice we're looking for one more we've got three um we'll give you some footballs for your team and some shirts from so you know i actually played against bob nellis so after the game he came to me and said i think you've got a chance i'd like to take you to scunthorpe for some training on a thursday night and we played on the car park under the floodlights and
And after about 10 trips, they decided to offer me an apprentice professional.
So, you know, that was a good system in those days.
You did a lot of jobs, obviously.
One of my jobs was cleaning floodlights, which was okay for me.
But we had a player called Alan Alberson.
He was scared of heights.
