And so, yeah, I mean, he then offered me, I think it was something like 25, 27 quid.

I can't remember exactly.

And I was on about 18 at Scunthorpe, which was a good wage.

And I just thought when he offered it to me,

And that was the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Bill Shankly.

And I think I had mine because he was a miner.

His dad was a miner.

All his brothers were miners.

He was born in Glenbuck, a mining village.

And he saw me as being a bit like him.

So he was always great with me.

I mean, when he left the club, I said at the time, when I left eventually in 77, even though I loved Bob Paisley to bits, the club was never the same for me.
