Yeah, um and all these mills, and there were hundreds of them.
That was the centre of well, UK production and obviously then for export too.
That is curious though, because I never knew that and it sort of validates the region of Manchester.
Because it isn't just one city.
I mean Manchester isn't
agglomeration of smaller towns too and it's sort of Greater Manchester is huge and hence its importance in cotton weaving and spinning and milling and carding and all that all that stuff.

Between the wars, funnily enough.
Yeah, and I think the mill that you and I visited is one of the last to have been built.
So there are quite a few in the north of England in that area which date from the seventeen hundreds.
Goes to show you how long this went on for.
And those early mills are really hist ancient historic buildings with ancient historic machinery in them.
And then there are some from the nineteenth century which are more industrial and then the 20th century ones.
But what's fascinating is, of course, that the reason they are where they are is proximity to Liverpool docks, an hour by travel.
And interestingly and importantly, there was a a canal.
Put in by Manchester to get ships from Liverpool up to Manchester.
And the canal ran along the side of the river, which was tidal.
And the canal, of course, allowed very large ships to be tugged, towed up by horse or whatever, into the middle of Manchester.
And the growth of the city depended on the canal and then on
