Great to see you guys bright and early this morning and uh and looking forward to it for sure.
I mean what what I've thought and what I've been saying is that it is an open competition in the sense that whoever is the best quarterback on the roster is gonna play.
There's no financial incentives for one guy or the other to play.
There's no um
You know, the person who drafted JJ McCarthy is no longer with the organization and the Vikings didn't draft Kyler Murray, so there's no loyalties or anything along those lines uh affecting it.
Um it's and the Vikings are are not yet ready to say who they think the you know the best quarterback on the roster is.
So by that definition, it is an open competition.
But I think we can all look with our own eyes and our own intelligence.
And know the careers up to this point of Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy and say at the very least Kyler Murray should and is the the heavy favorite to win it.
I don't think this is like a fake thing that they've already told Kyler Murray he's the starter, but they're just trying to make JJ feel better or they're just trying to s bring more fans to training camp or anything.
I do think that they are open.
to the possibility at least that J.J.
McCarthy could
shows such tremendous improvement from last year and and or Kyler Murray could uh fail to absorb the offense to such a degree that JJ McCarthy could be the week one starter.
But um absent of any of those two circumstances, I think there's a there's a clear understanding of what the the very the the the the likeliest scenario is here.

Yeah, and it sounded like and uh you know Kevin O'Connell said something interesting uh in the spring that he part of this judgment process is seeing how these guys function under difficult circumstances, um, which is by definition what you're talking about, like trying to to win a job and learn an offense on limited reps if you're Kyler and if you're JJ trying to fight upstream against inertia if if nothing.
else and and to try to save your career at least in Minnesota.
Um and so and I get that, like that's in theory like a great coaching point, but you know, it also rams up against the reality of
