Once a protege of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Reverend Jesse Jackson became one of the country's leading civil rights leaders in his own right, establishing the Rainbow Push Coalition based in Chicago.

He ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in both 1984 and 1988.

In 88, he finished second to nominee Michael Dukakis.
