These are all subjective things that we document as clinicians that we pretend are objective.
Yeah, it's yeah, that to be is ridiculous because it's it it gives the veneer that the mental status exam is, you know, entirely objective, but it is actually entirely subjective.
And in our in our clinical notes, we record that as the objective portion of the exam.
So here I am, you know, looking to see if Vanessa has any tattoos, looking to see, you know, if she's presenting herself in a way that is um
you know, essentially behaved a and orderly and that she has, you know, thinking processes that are linear and coherent.

And she had all of those things.
She also had
All the checkboxes for gender dysphoria.
And it was clear to me by the end that she had rehearsed, she had practiced in order to be able to have this diagnosis, because that is what trans people in the US have to do in order to be able to access the care they need.
They need to make sure that they can convince a physician that what they have is this thing that physicians are calling gender dysphoria, even though not all trans people
or queer people experience dysphoria.
Some people experience gender euphoria, in fact.
And they have to convince us that they're experiencing dysphoria in order to receive the diagnosis that will help them get what they need.
And just as we were finishing, she asked me.
Do you think I'm gonna get the surgery?
And
I felt like I had to say something and I did say
You know, I think you are.
