To be honest, I actually took a step back from raves and all of that, I guess around 94, 95, because, well, number one, I had to study for the HSC, so I stopped sort of going out.

And also at that point in time, the music had changed a lot.

So when I first got into it, it was very...

I don't know how you call it.

It was a bit of a mixed bag, a lot of early sort of trancy-ish kind of stuff, housey kind of stuff.

But then it started speeding up and becoming sort of like Gabba and Happy Hardcore.

And I think I thought it was too old for that.

And it was too fast or whatever.

So I sort of got out of race for a bit around 94.

But at the same time, another music started coming through.

A whole bunch of different styles came through, including trip-hop and big beat.

And I think the first time I heard trip-hop, I was like,

oh my god this music is like made for me it's like taking the electronic kind of like you know spatial kind of transcendent sort of out there approach that electronic music and raves have always had but then combining it with like hip-hop beats i was like this is me this is me so i was like i'm getting back into music i'm i'm buying records and i was literally just buying it for the love of it at that point in time i only had one shitty turntable

It wasn't even a 1200, it was like an SL-210 or something, belt-driven, couldn't mix on it.

I just sort of bought records for the love of it, you know, and that then started a new wave and then other friends of mine were DJing

And another friend of ours, Goodwill, who I think you might be speaking to, he started putting on some parties for us to play at just for a bunch of uni students, charged $3 entry.

And then we sort of started getting our first gigs that way.

So it's like a real combination of the hip hop and all the stuff that we're into before with our rave history, but then playing all this other new kind of stuff at the same time.

It was really cool.
