The problem right now, and Rachel's discussing one element of it, what's happening on the international stage, is there are no tickets for speeding in the White House anymore.
And this started in the first Trump administration, and it continued
I think prominently with Trump versus U.S., where the Supreme Court, out of the January 6th riots, out of the violence on that day where people died and there was an attempt to thwart the peaceful transfer of power to steal an election from a legitimate elected president, even if you didn't like the person, that is the case that gave this Supreme Court
the green light in their minds to give complete criminal immunity for presidents, so long as they're acting, in my mind, within the time that they have been sworn in before they leave office.
So to Rachel's point, I mean, you know, it's true that this puts these service members in harm's way, but you pair a directive from the president with a pardon
And I said this before Trump took office a second time, after my fourth book on the pardon power, which I know you and I've discussed.
You pair the lawlessness that the Supreme Court green-lighted in June of 2024, commit all the crimes you want, doesn't matter what your intention is, as I mentioned earlier.
It can be completely for your own personal gain.
So long as it's an official act by the president, the president can then pardon whomever executes those illegal acts.
And according to Trump, he just has to use a pen now that by virtue of his own hand, it can't be some other pen, which as I indicated earlier, is just silly.
Well, I think, as I mentioned earlier, I think, in effect, the Constitution has been suspended in a lot of material important ways because it's not being enforced.
That's what that means.
There's not a mechanism.
I mean, Trump is getting away with violating core elements of the Constitution in, you know, a dozen ways, probably, if I were to sit down and really lay them out.
Now, what does that mean?
I think it is about concentration of power.
In one place and in one person for now, but in one party, that's a minority.
So it is the dismantling of a democracy.
