It's a Tuesday morning and it's raining.
Not hard, just a soft gray drizzle that makes you want 10 more minutes under the covers.
It's the 21st of April, 2015 in South Africa.
And this particular woman doesn't have 10 more minutes.
She's a teacher who's got seventh graders waiting for her.
So she does her hair, she grabs her bag and her laptop, and she walks out the gate of her townhouse to wait for her ride.
Her name is Jade.
She's 29 years old and teaches at Rebeck College, a girls' school about 40 minutes away from her home.
And she doesn't drive there alone.
She carpools with her best friend, Charisse.
They've known each other ever since they were young girls.
They grew up together, they studied together, and now they teach at the very same school and ride in together every morning.
They take turns behind the wheel every week.
And this week, it was Charisse's turn to drive.
And this morning, Charisse is unfortunately running a little late.
She checks Jade from the road and it's raining so she asks if she should pull into the complex and grab Jade right at her door.
But Jade texts back with, no, don't stress about it.
She'll just wait at the gate.
