That same smiling face, over and over, under one word.
Missing.
200 police officers would eventually work this case, which I was very impressed by, but which also shocked me.
But the first day, it was mostly just people who loved her, driving around in circles, calling a phone they never picked up, holding on to hope that there was still some ordinary explanation for where Jade had gone, and to understand why an entire city stopped for this one woman, why teachers and strangers and parents flooded the streets for someone most of them had never even met.
you have to understand who Jade actually was.
Something that stood out to me was that Jade was the kind of person who kept animal rescue numbers on speed dial and she used it.
Charisse would drive around with Jade and she would suddenly go quiet and then she would point and say, over there, there's a man, he's selling puppies or a dog wandering too close to the road.
And Jade would already be reaching for her phone.
If they passed an animal that was in trouble on the side of a road, she would ask Charisse to stop.
Every single time, she would want to know, could they help it?
Could they keep it?
Could she take it home?
And she had, in Charisse's words,
a real heart for animals the kind that couldn't forget and just drive past without doing something and that really pulled at my heart because i'm also an animal lover just like that and at home jade had two yorkies who would show up in nearly all of her photos she volunteered at the spca she was looking after cats and dogs and these were animals that nobody had come for yet
Her little sister, Toni, rehabilitated monkeys, and there were photos of Jade holding them too.
She loved owls specifically, and when she wasn't with animals, she was often with children who needed someone.
She volunteered at children's shelters on top of everything else.
And the reason Jade became who she was goes back to where she was from and the family she was born into.
Jade Lynn Ings was born on the 22nd of November in 1985 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Her parents are Michelle and Derek Ings, and their home was at Kempha Road in Uteneg.
