There was still explanations that didn't require anything serious to have happened.

Maybe she felt sick and someone had come to pick her up.

Maybe there had been some kind of family emergency and she left quickly and she didn't have enough time to sort everything out, including her car.

Maybe something completely ordinary and forgettable happened and this whole situation would resolve itself with a phone call.

Mariano drove back to his own store.

But the hours passed.

The morning is now early afternoon, and her store location is still closed.

And Amber still has not reached back out.

And whatever explanations had felt plausible a few hours earlier were starting to feel a lot less likely.

The district manager calls Mariano again, tells him, you gotta go back.

Not just to look through the window this time, but actually figure out what's going on.

Mariano returns, and this time, he looks through the front glass, and the store's not even empty.

There's actually someone standing right behind the counter.

It's Brandon Beale.

Brandon walks over, unlocks the door, lets him in.

Mariano steps inside and he asked Brandon, have you seen Amber?

Brandon says no, at which point Mariano starts to look at the store around him.
