And she gets lucky.
She finds a quaint little house right across from the journalism lab and the humanities building where she's taking most of her classes.
She also has somewhat of a family there.
She was really close to her professors, two in particular, a married couple who both worked in the department, Rebecca and Michael Mullen.
They were her advisors.
They loved Brooke for her drive, her ambition, and even kind of looked up to her in some ways.
It was like she was wise beyond her years.
But was she?
It was actually a really good thing that she found this house to move into because she did start receiving threats herself.
And now Brooke was scared.
The good thing and the thing that made her feel secure was that the house that she moved into was owned by a campus police officer.
That made her feel really good about her decision.
She knew at any moment if there was a problem, there would be somebody right there who could help her, who wouldn't mind doing things like walking her to and from campus.
The landlord's name is Mike Nardine, and Brooke moves in July 1997 during the summer.
It turns out the campus officer slash landlord couldn't really stop the threats that were coming in because they were verbal and through email.
But again, Brooke at least felt safe.
She was a little shaken, but it didn't faze her.
Then her parents started to become worried.
Now I have to go back to before she moved.
She got a little scared because she was at a friend's house and a truck full of frat boys arrived.
