The beginning of the end was that fall semester in September of 1997.
Brooke was just going through her normal everyday routine.
But one thing that worried her friends was that she did live alone.
And yes, there was some comfort in the fact that she had a campus security guard right there if she needed him.
Besides, she spent most of her time on campus.
It wasn't until after classes were out that she would go to parties or other events to further her goal of gaining enough experience to become a real journalist.
And that's the only time she was out and about.
She was excited too.
because she was getting so close to uncovering the truth about what happened to this woman who claimed to be assaulted on the steps of the fraternity house.
She made that call and set up an interview with the woman.
It was to take place the second week of September.
She's more excited than ever.
She's determined to dig deeper no matter what, and this was just one month before Brooke becomes the victim herself.
It's 9.34 p.m.
on the night of September 7th.
a call came in to the Indiana State Police Department.
The terrified voice on the other end was Brooke's brother, Bron.
He was calling from Brooke's house.
He had just stumbled upon a scene that no one should ever have to witness, especially when it involves someone you love.
Bron was only 18 years old.
