So one thing I always hear from parents in the participation trophy crowd when it comes to introducing difficulty to children, not even in just sports, but in general, is, oh, just let kids have fun.
Kids just need to have fun.
Life is not fun.
Like our job as parents is to help and train them to become an adult.
They're going to be an adult a lot longer than they're going to be a child.
so why am i only focused on making life sweet and nice for them 95 of their lives is fun they're always doing what they want to do they're playing with their friends playing video games watching tv flipping whatever drawing with crayons whatever kids are always having fun so five percent of that definitely needs to be a little bit of difficulty so they can understand that life is hard
Work is hard.
Your job is gonna get hard.
Competition is hard.
You know, you have lessons that you have to learn, but if you only, you know, grow a child up only doing things that they feel like doing, they're gonna struggle the moment life asks them to do anything outside of the norm.
And so this is why you get kids who throw temper tantrums, who throw stuff, who are angry, who crying.
Every time something bad happens, it could be minimal,
It could be something so small because you have never allowed them to face any difficulty.
Then they know they don't know how to accept it.
I say no for sport.
No is a character building word.
