The Defense Department says that U.S.
Navy-guided missile destroyers have transited the Strait of Hormuz and are now operating in the Persian Gulf.
It says two U.S.-flagged merchant vessels have also successfully moved through the strait.
President Trump said the U.S.
would do this as part of an effort called Project Freedom.
Iran has threatened to attack military ships operating in the strait.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's foreign ministry says the U.S.
has flown 22 crew members of a seized Iranian container ship to Pakistan.
