So let's just concentrate on the fund.

Most ETFs in Australia are what we call passive instruments.

So passive, again, like a complicated expression, but basically it tracks an index.

So the first ETF ever in Australia was by State Street and it tracks the ASX 200.

So what that really means is that investors who don't want to particularly take specific stock bets or they want to complement their stock bets with just an index tracker, they buy the ETF from State Street and there's now iShares and BShares, two other providers that offer the same exposure.

But what you're really saying there is an investor, you're not...

it's not so much confidence, but you're saying to yourself, well, I don't know that I can always pick the right companies.

I know that some companies go down very, very heavily if they get it wrong.

So rather than just having only BHP and Rio and the big four and CSL,

What I'm also going to do is put some of my money into the ASX 200 and this fund will basically track whatever the main index is doing.

It won't do more and it won't do less.

So if Australia goes up, then I get the benefit of that.

And that basic concept has really taken over because what I've just described is by far the most basic component of it.

It just means that you can, if you think about not putting all your eggs in one basket, that's not really ETSR.

They're meant for sort of broad exposures.

So we talked about the ASX 200, but a lot of Australian investors use

You use it for things like yield.

So they will buy an exchange-traded fund that tries to put 40 or 50 companies into one basket.

So you're not picking just the banks.

You're not just picking big utility companies like Telstra that will pay you dividends.
