So hopefully I'll be able to deal with both risk profiles.
And then the concept of core satellites.
So core is where you basically have your, literally the core of your portfolio, which is probably going to be around 80%
of your portfolio.
And this is, to put it bluntly, it should be relatively boring and safe where you're trying to make within your own risk profile.
So for the younger person, they would probably have a bit more excitement within that boringness, so to speak.
But for someone who's in their retirement, they would be taking a very, very safe pathway within that.
But the core satellite, so when we talk about these things, let me take the retiree first.
So your core at this point should be not so much stocks.
So you will probably still have stocks if you're an SMSF holder and you may have held them for many years and done, if you're in Australia, done particularly well because many of the big companies
ASX 50 names have done very well over the past 20 years.
There's not many examples that weren't around 20 years ago with the exceptions of the after pays, et cetera, et cetera.
But in reality, you are taking a lot of risk having a lot of stocks in your SMSF.
So typically if you went to an advisor,
They would say to you, if you're in your 70s, you should have term deposits.
You've already covered the point.
Term deposits are not as attractive as they used to be.
Or what's called fixed income or bonds, which is where you're basically getting set amounts of money through for the investment you put in.
And their risk is much lower than stocks and companies, right?
Now, ETFs can help you with that because even then, setting aside the term deposits, but the fixed income side of things, you as an investor, you want to buy bonds, you want to buy fixed income exposures, you can go to your bank and they can set you up with something.
