You know, these guys deserved it.
They were Black thugs.
They were, and of course, the civil rights movement is still around.
They're pushing back.
They're saying, look,
The hypocrisy here, if a Black guy would have gotten on that subway and shot down four white teenagers.
But no one's hearing it, right?
No one's hearing it because there's just a denial that it has anything to do.
That, I think, that is different today.
The decorum.
The decorum of the decorum, maybe even of doublespeak is we're not there.
I think that's right.
And so what is so striking is the way in which the success, actually, of the tabloids in this time period, the success of that more conservative, sensational media, we've underestimated it, actually, as making its imprint on journalism in general, I think.
And, you know, this is not to throw all mainstream journalism under the bus by any means, but it is to say that the culture shift that happens over the last...
50 years may be driven by politics and driven by the economic agenda of certain segments of the population, but ultimately it has to be translated and ultimately it has to be either legitimated or seen as outrageous.
And there's something about this moment when, again, we first see that up is down, down is up kind of moment that we're in today.
And no one set of hands is dirtier than another.
It's just more it's an ecosystem that starts to get developed, which I personally just found fascinating.
