And around this time in like 90s, early 2000s, they were everywhere.
It was like a disease.
And according to Eric Rude, a close friend of the time, Rainier believed he could improve on Amway's models.
He wasn't interested in selling beauty products for the rest of his life.
He was studying the mechanisms underneath the sales pitch.
So in 1990, he put that study to work and he founded Consumers Buyline, a MLM company based near Albany that offered discounts on groceries, dishwashers, and
Hotel stays.
But of course, the real money wasn't in the product.
Old members earned commissions by recruiting new ones, and the pitch spread fast.
So he went city to city running recruitment events, filling rooms with as many as a thousand people ready to buy into the dream.
And every brochure and sales pitch circled back to the same claim.
The man behind the company had.
Had one of the world's three highest IQs, which just was not true, and was in one Guinness World Record book in Australia that got that got retracted after one year because it was BS.
But we already know that they didn't though.
And in 1992, the company reported 30 million in sales and projected revenues of a hundred million.
And he claimed that by the end.
End of 1993.
And consumers' byline had moved a billion dollars in goods and services.
