I couldn't catch my breath.

And I was like, you know, this this is another dream that's going to be taken away from me.

And it was my lawyers at Northwestern University that sat me down and said, you can make just as much change in the justice system without becoming a lawyer.

Honestly, if it hadn't been for my brother and my son, I would have curled up in a room somewhere and never came out.

I was scared.

The internet was just coming out when I went into prison.

So I'd never been on the internet.

My mobile phone was this big thing that you couldn't get very far away from the base.

I didn't know how to turn on the water in the bathrooms because nobody told me they took the knobs away while I was in there.

So everything was just...

Very frightening.

And I didn't know, am I going to the right place?

And am I asking the right questions?

And it's also embarrassment.

I'm 40 years old and I don't know how to do the things that people are doing now.

Most people aren't talking to people anymore.

They go through a self-checkout or they do things on an app.

I had no clue what an app was.

And I'd never had a card, a credit card or a debit card.

I barely had a checkbook.
