But these small little companies around the country and in these coastal towns, they went under.

for policy reasons, but also just for global reasons.
And we've also just seen more centralization because things become more specialized, right?
And so there's a sense among the rural population that power has been moving increasingly away from them, services moving away from them.
And for a big portion of those people, for understandable reasons, they're afraid of moving more power
Because they feel like this deeply changed our lives when you took power to Reykjavik, you're going to take it even further from us.
And understanding that sort of sentiment is really important in this debate, that it's just a different emotional matter for people that live outside of this urban area.
But the flip side to that as well is that there's a lot of positivities that have come with EU participation.
I mean, there are grants associated with Nordic or Arctic agriculture.
I mean, there's proper loans that are associated with better infrastructure, which is our biggest issue here and like a massive geographic place with a low population.
So the feeling that the Icelandic population needs to feel for someone like me is that I just understand where they're coming from and that I'm going to protect their interest.
So it's an understandable feeling that they have.
Yeah, I do.
Yeah.
I mean, the objective is to get a yes.
That is obviously the objective.
When you decide to do a referendum like this, people need to feel that you will respect the outcome no matter what it is.
And it is important that people feel that you're listening to them.
