Thank you so much for having me on the show.
The book, The Ghost of the Mountains, is an account of snow leopard biology, ecology, conservation through my perspective as a researcher and mountaineer from the Himalaya, parts of Mongolia, parts of Kyrgyzstan and parts of Nepal.
This book will take you on a journey through these big mountains in search of one of the least known wildcats of this planet, the snow leopard.
Yes, Aurangabad is as different as it gets from the Himalaya.
But I grew up reading books about mountaineering and adventure.
Some of them British.
Sir Chris Bonington was one of them.
And also some of the Indian expeditions.
And so from my early years, it was really the adventure of the Himalaya that was a calling.
And so that is what drew me up into the mountains.
I don't think back in the day heat or cold was much of a concern.
I lived in a small village.
At 4,350 meters in elevation, the village had five houses and it was completely cut off from all roads during winters.
There's just snow everywhere.
