with hopes that it's going to be fertilized by sperm and become a baby.
This is happening once per month.
The egg comes down, you ovulate, and then once that egg is alive for about 24 hours, once it dies, you don't have another egg to be fertilized until you ovulate again in your next cycle.
When that egg dies, you enter what's called your luteal phase.
And you are building up your, well, in your follicular phase, you're building up the lining of your uterus.
And then in your luteal phase, which is after ovulation, is when your body is starting to prepare this lining, hoping that that egg got fertilized.
And when that egg is not fertilized, the lining is shed.
And that is our period.
So all our period is, is the shedding of this lining.
But the actual most important part of our cycle is ovulation, is this egg that is getting released in hopes to become a baby.
And our body is extremely intelligent.
And so when it is giving us this opportunity to create life, it is only going to do so if it feels like our body is a safe and abundant enough home to house life.
If we are not feeding ourselves enough nourishing foods, if we are sleep deprived and so stressed out and all of these things that are depleting our own body, our body is going to sound the alarms and it's going to say, hold on, she is not really taking care of herself that well yet.
So let's hold off on trying to create another human on giving away our resources to this new life until this home, this body is safe and abundant and nourished and all of these things.
Getting a period, which is just the signal that you've ovulated every month, is this key sign of how healthy and how safe and how nourished and how regulated your body feels.
Because if you're not getting a period, which you can only get a true period if you have ovulated, you can get breakthrough bleeds and things like that, which are essentially fake periods, which is what you'll get when you're on the birth control pill or things like that.
It's not a real period.
But to get a real true period, you cannot get that until you have ovulated.
And ovulating every single month is this sign of health and vitality in the body.
And when you're on hormonal birth control, you are suppressing that.
