Yeah, well, they're great topics.

And obviously, I love talking about them.

So yeah, very excited to be chatting through those.

Well, I think a lot of people probably listening to this podcast have heard the term FIRE before.

the financial independence retiring early.

And I actually didn't hear that term until I got to it, which was pretty funny.

So I think the concept of financial independence needs to be separated out somewhat from the retiring early to talk about.

Because I think financial independence really reiterates for a lot of people what they've probably heard from mum and dad and from their grandparents over those years.

And it's that idea of putting your money to work for you so that you build up

enough assets that they can pay you and then work becomes optional.

And of course, in the olden days, it used to be that you worked for a company and they paid you a pension.

That's what you got for your lifetime of servitude.

These days, people are having to take a lot more control over it because that's not so common anymore.

And I guess that's what I sort of got to witness with happening with my mother.

And that's how I started learning about investing and the importance of money and then eventually getting to financial independence.

Her dad had the typical work for a company for 40 or 50 years, got a sweet pension, and life was grand.
