And, of course, my mum was a single parent raising two girls

And my parents split when I was eight.

And so I started hearing a lot more about money and the decisions she was making.

And it was that phase of work not being so much about staying in the same company for decades anymore and building up those pensions.

And so she started getting interested in investing and learning about it.

She didn't have any money to do anything with at that time.

This was when I was sort of in late primary school.

But she was really keen to learn about it.

And because she'd been working as a bookkeeper and then an accountant, she'd been seeing what other people had been doing with their money and had been talking to me about that sort of stuff.

Yeah, lucky me.

And I hadn't realised, I honestly didn't realise until I was in, you know, my 20s that not everybody's parent did that for them.

You know, I hadn't really thought about the fact that my mum was, you know, she was frequently telling me little stories and snippets and planting little seeds.

None of the big lectures, there wasn't like a sit down, Lacey, we're going to learn all about in chairs today.

And get out your notebook for the next three hours or anything like that.

It was just little snippets and regular and common to talk about.

And she'd talk about that sort of stuff in the context as well of making decisions with the money that she had, what we're going to do on holiday, what kind of car would we buy, you know, what could we afford for a mortgage, that kind of stuff.

And I just had that happening and didn't really think about the fact that not everybody's parent talks about that stuff.

There's quite a taboo on it for some families.

And not every parent knows as well because if your parents didn't teach you about it, then how would they know?

And it wasn't really strong in education schools.
