I still had lots of fun.

You know, I like traveling and I like good food and wine, but just things like cars and clothes don't really interest me at all.

So I'm quite lucky in that respect that I haven't had

high ongoing living costs to indulge in luxuries.

But it was more that idea of not wasting.

I thought I would try to get to that point where I had enough assets to cover my income at some point.

I just didn't quite expect to get there so early.

And a lot of that's to do with lucky timing.

I'm very lucky that I graduated into a mining boom with a set of skills that were in high demand and also got in at a time when the market looked terrible for property.

Everybody was really depressed, not dissimilar to what you would expect to find right now with such low interest rates.

It doesn't seem to have actually eventuated.

But just glad that I had the guts to do it.

It was a bit of timing luck there.

But, yeah, then all of a sudden, yeah, did the calculation.

Wow, look at that.

I don't have to work if I don't want to.

We can afford to cover our food and our rent and we're all okay.

So that was a very pleasant surprise.

And then a couple of years later I started learning about there was an actual movement about this, FIRE.

And although I'd had the experiences of many retirements, the retiring early bit didn't really do it for me because it's quite boring after a few months.
