These days, you have to have everything.

Obviously, some guys are going to be more gifted offensively.

Some guys are going to be more gifted defensively.

But I feel like these days, everybody wants to be Makar.

Everybody wants to be Clint Hughes.

And I think what's lacking in the NHL is those guys who are willing to accept the role to be a defensive defenseman.

And you see it.

Now the defensive defensemen, they're rarity, I'd say.

But you still get paid very well.

So if you don't have that... When I was growing up, I was drafted very high.

But it wasn't happening for me in the NHL.

I wasn't producing that many points, so I had to change something.

And I changed it.

I had to put my ego aside and kind of change my hockey style.

And like I said, it served me well.

But you need...

Like I said, good details, you need to be able to skate.

And the hockey IQ is a big thing too.

The offensive players are very smart, so you have to anticipate what they're going to be doing, what are their habits.

So you have to be prepared for all of that.
