Manny has talked about helping him find that passion again for the game.
And people can say all they want about, he's making 11.6, that should be the passion.
And I'm not going to sit here and argue with that.
But at the same time, because I do get it, that should be motivation enough.
But it's tough sometimes.
When you get into a stretch where you don't know if your game's going to come back and trying to fight that in your head, I had that for very different reasons with injuries.
But to convince yourself that you can do it, man, it's even harder than convincing yourself that you can make it when you're a teenager and you think you can do anything, right?
So having Manny there, it's his best option.
You show that you want it.
You show that you're putting the extra effort in.
Man, Manny will seem like he doesn't even have a family at home.
He'll sit at the rink and work with you all day long on the ice if you want that.
That's the type of guy he is and the type of coach.
It's up to Petey to utilize that and take advantage of it.
It's critical, but I also think there needs to be more clarification on that in the sense of like a clean slate is a very good thing.
But that doesn't mean that you brush everything under the rug and you don't talk about it.
Because there's pieces in there that clearly, whether it's on the mental side or on the physical side, that there's parts that you have to work on and improve to where he's feeling at a better place to do what he can do best, that we've all seen him be able to do.
So...
As much as the clean slate is a great thing, you can't forget the past and ignore it.
You have to face it and accept the parts that you did well and you're happy about, but also, more importantly, accepting the parts that maybe you didn't quite go all in on or whatever it might be.
