We have immense amount of respect and admiration for each other.
We know what it takes to be the best in the world and everything that comes with that.
and the responsibilities and the pressures that are associated with that.
But we laugh, we make each other laugh, and we laugh at ourselves and laugh at life.
And that's what keeps us going.

reinvented themselves several times especially after the tragic loss of Michael and he was irreplaceable one of the greatest front men of all time to then have the courage to go on and keep playing their music was a blessing to us all so Kirk is just he's such a grounded soul so seeing his ability to adapt to being on stage in front of thousands to them being at home doing the washing
He's just a remarkable soul around how he adapts to change.
And so, yes, it inspired me to see life outside of surfing.
Now, that didn't mean it made it easy.
It just gave me a real grounding force, especially in the days when it was hard.
And it took me probably four to five years to adjust and adapt to not being a professional surfer anymore because I had been since I walked out of high school.
Yeah, so I retired in 2008 and then in 2017 Maggie rang me out of the blue and said they've given me three weeks to live.
Will you come and say goodbye?
I'm like, oh, man, thanks.
Like that's not the phone call I was expecting.
And Maggie and I had been through a pretty tumultuous journey at that period because I was –
I had come to the realization after writing my book, my biography, I'd come to the realization that my fear of connecting with mum was founded in my fear of loss.
Like I equated motherhood with loss.
