You have a bunch of fake accounts that comment on something, or they retweet and they sort of amplify a certain narrative.

And so one of them, yes, was this argument of the Sidney Sweeney

jeans commercial and so yeah all of a sudden last summer there was this is like the loudest argument in america for a week and this uh ai bot detection firm that i talked to told me that we analyzed this and it seemed an awful lot like this was all totally inorganic there were a small number of accounts that were basically responsible for something like three quarters of the actual content so yeah it seemed like a real you know organic argument that people are having and yet probably wasn't at all

I'd say get out of your feeds.

I would say touch grass if there weren't a fertilizer company that was probably responsible for putting that phrase into the zeitgeist.

Yeah, I don't have any good – I feel like people should be more panicked about this though because there's not really a safe place to go and hide from it.

It's fooling actual legitimate sources of journalism.

We have a real problem here that I feel like we have to deal with, but I have no idea how we ever will.

So it's scary.

But this will make you crazy when you really start to think about this stuff and then you are reading Reddit comments or you're on YouTube or you open up your feed.

It's like you will get suspicious of things that may not even necessarily be paid advertising because everything at a certain point looks like it.

Trust me, you can go off the deep end.

And just the scary thing for me is like how much of what we know or what we think we know about culture in the last five or ten years is just total astroturf.

It's like we have a lot of assumptions about what we think was popular, and yet there might have been some manipulation happening.

So it's, yeah, very disorienting.

I think that is the word.
