I think it's because the issues that he raised...
are real, like the issues that he said he was facing, black academics in the UK are facing and in America.
I mean, there's a very famous case from a couple of years ago where Claudine Gay, who was the first black female president of Harvard, was essentially hounded out of her position after less than seven months because of plagiarism allegations.
One of the activists, conservative activists, who was behind that was a guy called Chris Rufio, who's talked about a playbook in which you find issues within academics' work, a black academic, especially female academics as well.
You highlight them, you pass them to right-wing media, they magnify them, they project them, and then it becomes a storm in which people are forced out of their positions.
And we've seen that.
Yeah, black academics have been harassed.
They have had horrendous emails sent to them.
It's real.
This is not made up.
It's not a fantasy, which is why it's so serious and why it's so egregious if these things are not true.
And yeah, I think publicly a lot of black academics are not coming out and condemning Professor Arday, partly because they know this stuff is real.
But privately, people are absolutely furious, and not just with Professor Arday, but also with Cambridge.
Yeah, I mean, I'm sure that dynamic will happen and we've seen that before.
But I think it's important to point out as well that the area that Professor Arday was studying was already seen as a joke by many people on the right.
It was already dismissed.
It wasn't taken seriously in the first place.
So this just makes, I mean, one of the academics I spoke to said that, you know, this story will set back the study of race in this country by 20 years.
Like it could be that dramatic.
which is not what we need when we've got a kind of rising hard right slash far right that are eking their way into politics at the minute and changing our conversation about what it means to be British and who can make that claim.
