And the Children's Hospital is an apt analogy.

I actually feel bad.

I heard Jennifer Carol McNeil on the program earlier.

I actually feel bad for her at this stage when she's getting asked tough questions about the Children's Hospital because so much of it is before her time.

You know, it's just an awful thing.

But you take that, you extrapolate from that.

Will we ever be able to deliver on it?

How much is it going to cost?

And then when you hear some of the relatively small potatoes figures that are being thrown out in terms of a rail line out to the airport, expanding the Lewis network, perhaps that's the direction we should go in.

Well, the idea is if we can expand access to transit, if we can make the transit network in and around Dublin better without the metro and all that that entails, then perhaps that's the road we should go down, mindful of all the other realities that we're dealing with.

Can we deliver?

Someone told me it was a tiny figure.

I mean, it was in the single digit millions as to how much it would have cost to build an underground back in the 1970s.

It was some very small figure.

And maybe, as you say, maybe that time has come and gone and maybe we need to be, I suppose, less visionary and more realistic about what's feasible.

Yeah, I don't accept in terms of the city centre.

I think that there is an air of menace in Dublin city centre almost all the time, day or night.

And you see it on the street.

It's impossible to avoid it.

And when I contrast it with the two cities that I know best, other than Dublin, two big cities I know best, whether that's Boston or whether that's Edinburgh, I feel an awful lot safer in the city center of both of those cities than I do in Dublin city center.
