You think you have no contacts, but you had that internship and you had a supervisor and you had a colleague and you had a fellow intern that you worked with.
There's three contacts right there.
I was just thinking about how many useful tools that you all have at your disposal.
So for example, if you're applying for a job and you're doing a virtual interview, you could ask to screen share, right?
And you could really impress everyone and just pop up a little portfolio.
Or if you're a graphic designer, an example of a website you created or a press release you wrote or whatever the thing is, right?
So I think you can do that.
I was also thinking, and this is going off a little off topic about interviews, but I was also thinking about TikTok and just how cool, I don't know if you guys have followed the TikTok resume hashtag, but you guys can literally make a TikTok video and then use that green screen function to pop up photos of things that you've done before, Instagram handles that you've managed, whatever the thing is, right?
So I would just say lean into this and lean into the tools because there are some really cool ways for you guys to not only connect, but also show off what you've done.
And these were things that weren't available or people weren't doing before.
A lot of times, I think in interviews, everyone's really nervous, which is natural.
But I think sometimes we're so focused on ourselves and what we're saying that we're not actually hearing the information that's being fed to us or shared about the listing.
So I usually jump in.
We have a hiring manager that leads the process.
Then sometimes there's a second interview.
I usually come in around the third round interview.
And my first question to people or to candidates is,
can you describe the job that you're applying for and i will tell you very often i'm talking to someone who's applying for a sales role and they say the word content or i'm talking to someone who's applying for content and they say some word that like just has nothing to do with what we're applying for and it's great because it gives me an opportunity to manage expectations make sure everyone knows what's going on but it also tells me that people aren't listening
So I would say make sure that you're not only asking the questions and checking the box and giving the lovely polished answers, but you're also really interested.
And if you're curious about something, ask it.
