And it was such a very good metaphor for these people really sort of invading and occupying someone else's country and not understanding it in any way.

I mean, everything, the smell, I mean, everything's described in that way as if it is all rotting.

And even the club that everybody wants to be a member of, actually, it's described as something horrible.

Nobody really wants to be there in the end.

I mean, in the whole place, it's like a place you go to... To drink.

Yeah, but the whole, you know, being sent out to Burma is... Yeah, that's right.

So it's a sort of failing, isn't it, to be there?

Yes, and he starts to see beauty in some of the things.

So he admires some of the rituals and some of the nature, and that's considered a problem.

Yeah, there is that.

And yet Flory just wants to connect with someone.
