I actually gave an interview to Worms magazine and I said something to this.

And it's so universal, but it's so personal.

Everyone has sex, but everyone has sex in a different way.

And the editor said, not everybody has sex.

So, you know, asexual representation.

The asexual community out there, I love you, I support you to have sex with no one or have sex with everyone.

But I think the tricky thing about writing this kind of sex, which is it's fairly, the sex scenes are quite graphic and they are quite kinky, I suppose.

And there's also a big S&M kind of power dynamic.

And what I found interesting about that is that a couple of reviews, the LA Review of Books and the Irish Independent, both spoke about Charlie's desire to be dominated or, as they said, degraded.

They wanted to read that through a lens of childhood trauma, which I thought was so deterministic.

It doesn't grant a character any kind of agency as why they might arrive at their own desires.

I think that it speaks to like sort of how unsettled people are with sex, like imperfection.

They kind of skirt around sex.

They're even concerned about having sex.

in that monogamous relationship.

And I think that it does unsettle people and I think I just had to not be afraid of the fact that this was not a book I wanted my mother to necessarily read.

Yes.

I hope she liked it.

She did.

She had a lot of questions.
