Yeah, your mum's tough stuff.

My mother is actually very frank about these things.

When she read Fifty Shades of Grey, she said, actually, it's a very conventional novel.

It's just they have an interest in sex life.

So it's totally right.

I think she could probably handle it, but she just isn't going to get round to it.

And I'm fine with that.

I think as sex writing goes, you can certainly compare it to... There are writers out there who are a lot more graphic and a lot more intimidating with writing about sex.

Maybe not at this moment, but if you're looking at the artist formerly known as Poppy Z. Bright or, you know, the marketing star or something.

You know what I mean?

There's definitely...

much more explicit, challenging sex writers.

I didn't write gratuitous sex, but there is a lot of sex and it does not cut away to the cartons.

But I think that's important because we do live in such a moment of either cutting away to the cartons or having queer intimacy, queer sex, trans relationships, which are kind of set up for a straight audience, like a movie like Pillion or Heated Rivalry or something like this.

Yeah.

which I think does a disservice to those stories.

what you were thinking about how much that matters because it's the same in the last book yeah very much i think honestly that style is for me the most interesting and important thing about novels and also with movies i think about um harmony corinne talking about when he made films he said no one ever remembers the plot you remember great scenes and great performances

I think that's very true.

Or Jim Jarmusch saying, you know, there's no plot in life.
