So if there is a condition that you or someone that you love is

struggling with, perhaps it's just a conversation with your doctor or specialist.

So my friend Tom, who took part in a couple of glaucoma studies, he asked his optometrist in a conversation about whether there was anything he took part in.

Well, it is a very personal subject, but we need people to participate in clinical trials in order for potentially life-changing medications to be approved.

Because if these aren't trialled in people, we don't know that they're safe and they can't make it through to the next phase.

And I suppose one of Australia's most famous participants was

was Richard Scolia.

So we obviously had his memorial on Monday.

He's a renowned pathologist, melanoma researcher, excellent all-round Australian who will be sadly missed.

And he wrote this beautiful open letter to all Australians.

And in it, he wrote about the pride he felt taking part in and advocating for clinical trials.

So he wrote, to all cancer patients, I encourage you to consider enrolling in research and

and clinical trials if on offer.

And he also said, and to the government and to the wider community, please keep funding science and medical research.

This is the most impactful way that you too can make a difference.

And Tom, who's taken part in these three clinical trials, he kind of echoed the same thing.

And this is Tom's words.

And again, these decisions and the pro-con and the weighing it up, it's a deeply personal decision for everybody.

But the greater good is if more people take part in clinical trials, volunteer, it actually advances Australia's scientific knowledge.

It may just do, yes.
