So as bond yield fall, the asset prices rise.
And this, in theory, should be sort of a netting effect.
And it does to some extent.
The problem is the proportion of a portfolio that's invested in bonds is not 100%.
So that discount rate, as it's called, that gets applied to that portfolio gets applied to the entire portfolio, whether it's bonds or equities.
So that net effect of rising bond prices only mitigates a portion of the portfolio price, not the entire portfolio price.
And as a result, you have this sort of falling values outweighing the rising values.
Thank you very much.
That's right.
So many farmers in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan have insurance policies on their crop that will pay out if their season doesn't turn out quite as well.
They had to plant their crop by June 5th.
Starting on June 6th, the payout that they get back on that crop starts to fall 1% every day for the next 20 days.
Yes, it's very complicated because it really was a very extraordinarily wet planting season.
So what happened is the farmers weren't able to get their crop in the ground on time.
And every sort of week that's gone by, as I've been watching this market over the past month or so, farmers have started getting nervous.
And they kept saying, and a lot of the companies that I watch kept saying, well, next week they'll be able to plant, next week they'll be able to plant.
And then finally, they've come on to this June 5th date where they really don't know.
And what we're seeing is a lot of data that shows that they aren't planting.
And so what they're sort of being forced to do now is make this very sophisticated calculation in terms of
what kind of crop they're going to get out of the ground, what that crop is going to sell for.
