What is a landfill and are all landfills the same?
Yeah, yeah.
And I know, because I live out of Waikoaiti, when Waikoaiti became a transfer station, there was a question, well, how is that different from a landfill?
Yeah, so we've got Waikuaiti Transfer Station.
There's one in Middlemarch as well, isn't there?
Yeah, there is.
And we've had One Coast on the podcast before.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And so that's a really good example of communities coming together to help save what goes into landfill.
But obviously most people are aware that landfill buries, compacts and covers rubbish, but obviously there's a bit more, much more to that.
Can you explain some of the processes that go on at the Green Island Landfill and how you manage and mitigate some of those environmental impacts?
Yeah, no, it definitely has because obviously, you know, you deal with your own rubbish, really.
You don't really genuinely tend to deal with other people's rubbish.
And so knowing what else is in there and what, you know, I guess that complexity is really important for us to be able to make some of those really big changes towards a zero-waste lifestyle.
Yeah, I think that's probably like a really good point because, you know, we do get a lot of people who just assume that the magic happens at landfill.
A really good example is, well, we talk a lot about wish cycling.
Yeah.
And there's an assumption there that if you put it in the rubbish that the recycling will get taken out at the other side.
Yeah.
