That's the hugest thing of Gestalt, that it brings you to a place where you have awareness.

Some people call it mindfulness, but you become aware.

And once you become aware, there's no going back.

You have to react or respond, respond, which Fritz Perls calls responsibility, the ability to respond.

And then you realize I have a choice.

This is the beginning of real healing.

The beginning of real healing is I don't have to do this.

I could do this or this or this.

And in Martin Buber, I don't know if you've ever read Martin Buber.

He has a book called I Thou.

And this is very, very, very deep communication.

And when I teach, I teach Martin Buber together with Gestalt because Martin Buber doesn't say that awareness is the beginning of healing.

He says, just meeting.

It's a true meeting.

He calls it I-Thou.

And if I come to you and I have an agenda like this podcast, when you said to me, I'm just going to go flowing with it, that's I-Thou.

But if you say, okay, I have all these questions I want to ask you, it becomes an I-It.

I become a tool for you.

There's no more communication.

There's no more meeting.
