I think there's something quite beautiful about the way Argentina just intrinsically know how to get the ball to him.

It's taken them a long time in Messi's international career to figure out how to do this until he was into his mid-30s, really.

But they cracked it at the last World Cup and they've got arguably the clearest identity of any team in this tournament because it's the same one that powered them to success last time.

I just don't think they're as good at it this time.

I think Messi is still obviously amazing and can still win any game.

I think the difference between this World Cup and the last one is the last one, they were, after Mexico, they controlled most of those games only to lose control at a certain point.

Whereas with these games, it feels like they're not in control for most of the game and then just dig in and do enough in the end.

And I'm not sure how sustainable that will be against better teams.

It's almost as if the situation is too simple for him.

There are too few variables like the spin of the ball, the movement of opponents.

It's just him and the goal and the keeper.

And given how well he can strike the ball, it's really just him and the goal.

And often he just kind of gets in his own way.

I think the last World Cup, he got into a really good groove of scoring penalties relative to his career.

And he seemed to be much more waiting for the keeper back then, whereas now he's just running up and hitting it.

And he kind of telegraphed that one, I thought.

Yeah, I think it was 17 seconds passed between that incident and the ball hitting the back of the net.
