Yeah, that's an interesting question.
I accept today that I was totally on the wrong side of history.
But I also think that both sides were right and both sides were wrong.
The rugby union was wrong to invite
the Springboks because that sort of was supporting the apartheid regime, but they were also right to do it and the protesters were right to protest because those two things actually hastened the fall of apartheid.
I've talked to South Africans since
who said the first time they ever saw that the world was upset with their system was when they saw these protests at games that were being screened back to South Africa.
Up until then, if you cancelled a tour, well, that's a government saying we don't agree with your policies.
But when they saw normal people out there protesting, that changed a lot of people's minds.
And I've heard Springboks.
also say the same thing, that that actually made them realize that their system was actually loathed by a lot of people.
So yeah, I accept that I was on the wrong side of it, but I think the whole combination was good for the fall of South African apartheid.
And today, would I protest?
Yeah, if the tour was knowing what I do, yeah, I think I would probably protest knowing that that was sending a message to South Africans.
It's the never-ending story.
